NetEnt is reviving the diamond-shaped game grid with its latest gladiator-inspired video slot, Rome the Golden Age. In fact, it’s one of the few video slots that works better with said reel and row combination. In essence, what makes this mixture so great is the included “golden age symbols”. And their symbol collection that follows. Basically, what you want in this title is not to trigger the free spins until you have enough golden age symbols to reap the large rewards.
Just listen to this, if lady luck wink at you, the max win comes in on a close to never heard, 100,000x your bet. Moreover, the base game includes the symbol collection feature. The main game feels more like a part of the overall story than a transport passage to the main bonus game, free spins. All in all, NetEnt’s fight against the gladiators gets 2 thumbs up.

Rome the Golden Age video slot – Bonus Feature
The primary bonus function is free spins, but allow us first to explain the build-up mechanics. Fundamentally, every time the gold coin “the golden age” lands, it marks the spot with a frame. Also, depending on the circumstances, a random 1 to 4 points adds to the meter, displayed on top. That expands the free spins multiplier in 19 levels one step at a time on every 200 points collected in the meter. That ranges from 1x to 1,000x your free spin win. Also, during the base game, the golden age symbol can transform into a Rome symbol. This activates the frame that results in all the adjacent symbols framed or not (on next spin) turns into a wild symbol. And to trigger the free spins, all you need is the scatter symbol on reel 2, 3, and 4 for the initial 3 free spins in Rome the Golden Age.
Symbols and Scatters
As we previously touched on. The golden age designed Rome and wild symbols; let’s instead have a closer look at the regular paytable. Starting from the high-end payout, which is a tiger in an attack position. This followed by a well-known eagle-designed symbol and a gold ring as the mid-range selection. Taking us to the lower section of the higher paying ones, depicted by a legion helmet and finally, 2 cross-laid swords. And if we venture into the lower selection in Rome the Golden Age. We find the Ace, King, Queen, Jack, and 10 included. And that’s what, Rome the Golden Age video slot has as a symbol collection, Though, we forgot to mention the scatter symbol. That is a theme-fitting golden laurel leaf on a red flag with gold tassels.
Our thoughts on Rome the Golden Age video slot
To sum up, it is rare that a break from the norm, like the traditional reel and row set up, works great from the first spin. More particular, the diamond-shaped game 3-4-5-4-3-row grid in Rome the Golden Age video slot tightens up the game and serves up more action. And combining that with the excitement of collecting symbols and hope for the free spins not to drop is an interesting mix, to say the least indeed. In reality, it doesn’t matter when the free spins decide to hit. As who doesn’t enjoy a good bonus game. But don’t wish for the free spins too early in your play session for those big payouts. And even to get a chance of hitting that 100,000x as a max win, the multiplier meter needs to reach all the 19 charges in Rome the Golden Age.
