With the never-ending story of Brexit, many operators and providers start to step back, and visible cracks are forming. Although it’s too soon to say what will happen. We’re still waiting on the verdict if the UK actually will leave the EU. What we do know, there will most definitely be noticeable changes in the igaming landscape no matter what the outcome is. And one of the questions we all should ask our self. Have the UK gambling commission focused on areas that in the end didn’t need changing if EU companies leave the UK market?
Not a clear split
At this point it’s only speculations, with a lot of if’s and but’s attached to them. Yet, according to numerous industry reports. Many companies have indicated that they are ready to throw in the towel on the UK market. However, some say that the UK market will see more benefits and predict positive outcomes. And here is where the if’s and but’s comes into play. Will there be too much bureaucracy to operate a casino in the UK after Brexit?
Undoubtedly, pressure points for operators could be complications with taxation, licenses, regulations, and the change in gambling laws. But, once again it all comes down to what version of Brexit we’ll see.
Money comes first
Let’s put things in perspective. The last few years the iGaming sector has transcended to over £14 Billion in revenue. Plus, keep in mind, all of this is not going directly to big corporations. Indeed, a big chunk of the cash also finds its way to the UK tax chest. Which are then distributed across the public services and the economy.
With this in mind, will Brexit include a special exception for the industry? And, or, will companies consider taking on the administrative headaches in benefit of earning shares of a Billion £ market? For now, it’s all up in the air. And if you ask industry experts no one seem to agree on what could happen. But time will tell…
