It was undeniably a unique year to host the Grand National Horse Racing Festival. And there’s no doubt the organizers would have faced some new challenges too. After all, it was the first time since 1839 that the Grand National Horse Racing Festival took place during a world pandemic.
But as the number in the UK shows. Punters were longing for the event since it didn’t happen the year before. So, many believe that the 2021 edition of the UK’s most famous race would see even more action than before. And now that the numbers are in, Scientific Games (SG) is happy to share an increase by 55% if you compare the latest figures with the ones of 2019.
In fact, according to SG, their most popular online sportsbook operators contributed towards the system accepting just over 50 million bets in 3 days.
Now, of course, not all 50 million wagers were on the Grand National during this time. But 19 million, if you prefer, were, and that’s an impressive number of bets to handle. At its peak, SG’s Open Sports system accepted and processed around 57,000 bets per minute. And this is something that Scientific Games Digital Group CEO Jordan Levin bragged about.
Levin said that the system saw much improvement in the past 3 years in a post-event press release. These uplifts heavily contributed to the company’s capability to handle significant sporting events such as Grand National for leading operators worldwide. But in the same debrief, the CEO also re-iterated why SG’s OpenSports is a leading platform. Sure he attributed much of the success to their robust reputation for stability. But the latest enhancement, such as risk management, are essential to serving some of the biggest names in the industry.
