It’s no new thing to have an online casino sponsoring a top UK football team. Now, it seems that Casumo has got in on the action. In fact, Reading FC has recently confirmed that Casumo will be the club’s main sponsor with a new two-year deal.
As a result, you’ll now see the Casumo logo on the club’s kits. So, watch out for the new club jerseys which they are due to release in the next week or so. Also, Casumo has now taken over the sponsorship from an energy drink company, who had sponsored the team since 2015. However, this means a change for the club’s social media page’s, which will no longer feature the iconic drink logo. So, it’s time for a new marketing strategy.
Who is Casumo?
Anyone familiar with online gambling will have heard of Casumo once or twice. They have been around since 2012 with its headquarters in Malta. Although this is their first foray into the world of football sponsorship, but not their first time into the sports world. Indeed, they have already got sponsorship deals with Wembley Stadium as well as Planet Odd a Swedish Esports team.
Furthermore, they are soon to enter the UK sports betting market. Clearly, this is an exciting deal for Reading. CEO, Nigel Howe said. “As a club, we celebrate our history, football traditions and glories are gone by.” He also added that “we also pride ourselves on being innovative and forward-thinking.” He also likened his team to Casumo, saying that the environment for fans is “fun, friendly and exhilarating”.
A Record Deal
Although exact figures are still unknown, there are rumours that this is a record-breaking deal. Reading FC is now the 15th club in the Championship to have an online casino as the main sponsor. There are questions over the ethics of giving online gambling institutions such prominence, however. Still, it a great deal for Reading, and we look forward to seeing those new kits soon.
