When NetEnt released the first title in 2013, it completely pulled the rug out of all the UK player’s feet, in a good way. In fact, it quickly became one of the provider’s more spun titles, just in a short while. As such, banking on its excellent reputation, NetEnt decided that it would deserve a follow-up named Gonzo’s Gold. That takes more of its inspiration from Evolution’s live tv-game show format, Gonzo’s Treasure Hunt, than Gonzo’s Quest’s video slot version. Basically, you can say that Gonzo’s Gold is a title that blends the best attributes from them both, with different weight importance of implementation. The question is, are you going to like it as much as any of the previous releases? That we couldn’t say, but what we know is that we will leave an honest and transparent review of the latest addition, a cluster pays video slot.

Gonzo’s Gold video slot – Bonus Feature
As iconic that the first Gonzo title – Gonzo´s Quest – was, equally recognisable is the bonus game, free spins. And that’s not all, even the trigger removes any guesswork, and such triggers via 3 or more scatters. Although some things are changed, this includes a random pick of displayed expanding symbols in the free spins game. To explain, first, before you get going with your 10 free spins, you need to pick between 9 covered symbols to reveal the expanding one. That covers either an entire row or a whole reel; naturally, as this is a cluster pays operated mechanics video slot, you also get a win for every fully expanded symbol grouping, of course. And that’s about how un-complicated the bonus game is in this video slot.
Side note about the bonus feature
There is not much to add to the online casino bonus game in Gonzo’s Gold video slot. First, though, the increasing multiplier in the free spin you can get rewarded is worth pointing out. Meaning, the number of triggers scatters also decides the win multiplier. Where 3 scatter gives 10 free spins with a 10x win. And 4 scatters payout 10 free spins, and also a 20x bet win. Finally, managed to fill all the reels with one scatter? Well, in that case, you just won an astonishing 200x your bet as an added win as well. And this is on top of your already granted 10 free spins.
Symbols and Scatters
Naturally, the 2 highest paying symbols in Gonzo’s Gold are the protagonist himself. Alongside the well-known gold mask/stone statue follow-up. And touse two symbols are the most potent symbols, except the trigger and booster symbols. Now, for the midsection, Evolution-owned NetEnt decided to include other similar and themed fitted symbols. The middle of the pack symbol selection consists of 2, a, blue and, a green Inka inspired statues. At the same time, the lower segment is all the familiar ace, king, queen, jack, and 10. Leaving only the scatter symbol, a golden flat-top pyramid on a red backdrop with a gold frame. By which also grants more free spins in the bonus game. And that’s it, let’s instead go directly to the real spin experience of this video slot from NetEnt.
The real spin experience of Gonzo’s Gold
We set out to get our 100 £1 real spin in Gonzo’s Gold video slot with great enthusiasm. Our expectations and this video slot saw eye to eye early on, as we hit a free spins bonus game after only 10 base spins. And the outcome was even more pleasing with a great £65 win. Although, after the more than a lucky start, we slowly experienced the high volatility mechanics and got lower wins to populate the game grid. Still, after the reels came to a stop after the 100 test spins, we still had a positive account balance. A such, if that’s the measuring tool? Well, then Gonzo’s Gold video slot is a fantastic title. Although there is more to it, we have to say.
Our thoughts on Gonzo’s Gold video slot
We are, of course, more than happy when a video slot session has a posetive outcome. Yet, winning is not the only mechanic that keeps players enticed. In fact, the blend of the themes, mechanics, and, yes, the win is the main trinity of attributes to encaptivate players. Unfortunately, and to be completely transparent, Gonzo’s Gold video slot is not delivering on all 3 nominators simultaneously. However, Gonzo is a huge brand name. Meaning, just by being associated with the label gives this video slot a leg up. Yet, if we pass our verdict and relay some thought, it would probably be missed opportunity and a bit bare-bones delivery. Sure, the Gonzo’s Gold video slot will find an audience, but not at the extent of at the original. And we can say that with quite a lot of confidence. But, test it out for yourself before any judgment.
