One of the more successful games studio collaborations is between Iron Dog Studios and Microgaming. Where we have seen gems like megaways Jack emerge. And now we learn that the partnering studio Iron Dog released what looks to be another good contribution. And we are of course talking about Barbarian Gold. That transforms you into a fictional world filled with orcs, giant snakes, and the protagonist and main hero, the Barbarian himself. That is ready to take on anything coming his way in this 5-reel 3-row 20 payline video slot. And to loot all the riches, he has such things as expanding wilds and free spins to help him out. But, let’s disclose the general mechanics and how the bonus feature works in Barbarian Gold.

Barbarian Gold video slot – Bonus Feature

Essentially, wilds are what encompasses Barbarian Gold. However, let us figure out the bonus feature trigger first. And it’s as simple as land 3 or more scatter in the shape of a skeleton ox head. That takes you to the first stage of the free spins, the Lava Cave. Where the expanding wilds now not only are wild but also add 1x more multiplier per wild to your winnings. The second stage, Gold Cave, achieves if 3 or more scatters land in the free spins round. Where now the expanding wild got even more powerful. And in addition to adding more multipliers, the wild also adds 1 free spin extra per wild. But what’s more, the number of free spins determines by the number of scatters. That stretches from 8 to 12 free spins.

Symbols and Scatters

At no surprise, in Barbarian Gold, the highest paying symbol is the Barbarian, followed by the Orc and snake symbol. Then the weapons of the barbarian take a president like an ax, sword, and finally the morning star or mace. Plus 4 shield looking symbols in the shape of heart, spade, diamond, and lastly clubs. However, the main attraction and more desirable symbol is the expanding wild. That when combined in a payline expand to cover the complete reel. And will as such substitute all symbols, except for the scatter, due to obvious reasons. Though, what needs to get said as well, is that if you are the type that plays for the bonus feature, you are in luck. As you can effectively bypass the base play with the buy feature option. However, this may not apply to where you play. As such, it’s availability may vary.

Our thoughts on Barbarian Gold

To be fair, Barbarian Gold will not entice all types of players and segments. Sure the win potential is still 10,000 x your bet. However, it’s somewhat limited due to its stake options in combination with the high volatility setting. Although, the appeal is there for players that enjoy a blast from the past retro video slot with updated graphics. And should as such, not be tossed to the side and ignored. All that we ask of you try this video slot, with or without a casino bonus, and cast your own judgment.
