Her side of the story

The story began when a 42-year-old woman that wants to remain anonymous reported her problem gambling story to a popular British newspaper. According to the woman, she lost hundreds of thousands of pounds on Casumo and LeoVegas. Even though she showed problem gambling sign, she still kept on playing. Apparently, the woman in question caused many chargebacks to the brands and reversed her pending withdrawals too. Yet, her account remained open.

Now that’s a sad thought, especially when knowing that both operators heavily promote responsible gambling. So it goes to show how important the UKGC’s work on educating players is.

LeoVegas want to land a hand

According to the woman, LeoVegas offered to step in and help her with the rehabilitation costs. Sadly, she declined the help. She also said to the press that “They have algorithms where if you’re spending a lot they make you a VIP. Or send you an email with a casino bonus, and they use that to their advantage. They could also use it to prevent problem gambling.”

It’s true that active players receive emails with promotional offers. But, emails are a marketing tool used by many companies. Should the woman in question have used the responsible gambling filters, maybe they could have helped to get her gambling habits under control? But certainly, the filters would have stopped her from receiving incentives. On a final note, the UKGC has yet to conduct a full investigation. Plus, the operators mentioned here have not commented on the news either.
