After the departure of Quartieri as the CFO from Scientific Games, they have now named their new replacement. As of June 1st, Mike Eklund will take over the role. Michael Quartieri has been in the role of Chief Financial Officer since 2016. However, he has decided that this is the time to step away and look at other opportunities away from iGaming. He will stay on as a consultant until the end of 2020.
Eklund brings plenty of experience to the role. Indeed, he comes straight from IRI, a market research company. There he served as CFO from July 2019. Previously, he held financial and operational roles in Dell Technologies for over 20 years.
Mike Quartieri is leaving the role with his head held high. In his four years in the role, he has built a world-class financial team. The Chief Executive of Scientific Games said they were all “grateful for Mike’s constant dedication to the success of the Company and its people”.
However, Quartieri has decided to move into a brand new industry and to face new challenges after spending so long in iGaming. Initially, he intended to leave earlier in the year. However, when the pandemic hit, he stayed on to help guide the company through financial complications arising from the crisis. He helped the company to reduce cash burn and keep operations moving. Ultimately, he helped the company to come out of the crisis even stronger than before. He has left them in the perfect position to move on with a new CFO.
Now they are ready for and looking forward to Eklund starting at the beginning of June. Cottle, the Chief Executive of Scientific Games believes that he can bring a “wealth of experience in financial and operational leadership”. Also, he’ll help to bring the company’s finance and operation in line with the company’s business model”. He will be the perfect man to build on Quartieri’s legacy.
